Grasshopper Makes iPhone/iPad Game For Japan Relief

by Matt Helgeson on Mar 31, 2011 at 02:56 PM

Suda 51's Grasshopper Manufacture is known as one of video games' most creative studios, thanks to titles like Killer7 and the No More Heroes series. Grasshopper has now entered the world of iPhone and iPad development with Frog Minutes, a very unique mobile game that was made to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross and its efforts to aid in the wake of the tsunami.

As you might expect, it's not your typical iPhone game. Its simple gameplay is rather soothing; as you tap to the screen to reveal hidden insects, then feed them to the leaping frogs on screen. As the frogs become full, you tap to collect them, uncovering more insect hiding spots. It's hypnotic, thanks in large part to the gorgeous, hand-painted backgrounds.

It's simple, appealing, and for a good cause. Oh yeah, and it's only 99 cents. Go buy it now.
