Father Joins Son In Custody After Selling Stolen Video Games

by Ben Reeves on Mar 25, 2011 at 10:45 AM

Like father like son. Just weeks after his son was busted for robbing several retail stores, a father was caught trying to unload the stolen products.

Earlier this March, 18-year-old Shawn Douglas Hefner and 29-year-old Thomas Douglas Barr were arrested in in York County, South Carolina for allegedly robbing several local businesses including Sally's Beauty Supply, Dollar Tree, Today's Nails, American General, Radio Shack and GameStop. At the time of the arrest, the duo was in possession of eight stolen vehicles and a mountain of stolen electronics and video games, which they were attempting to sell on eBay, Craigslist, and a few local flea markets. Shawn's father, 37-year-old Douglas Scott Hefner, had eluded authorities until recently.

Hefner was arrested on Wednesday after trying to sell the stolen video games to a GameStop in Greenville, South Carolina. According to reports, he'd forgotten that they nicked the games from a GameStop in the first place. About $60,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered during his arrest according to the York County Sheriff's Office.

Just another case of street justice.
