Unboxing Xseed's Awesome Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Premium Edition

by Phil Kollar on Mar 25, 2011 at 01:40 PM

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky may not rank high on your list of must-play games that you're salivating over, but this new PSP RPG deserves an unboxing. Why? Because Xseed is a publisher who knows how to put together a cool special edition. They kindly supplied me with an advance copy of the game's Premium Edition, which I immediately tore open for your enjoyment.

Here's the box for Trails in the Sky Premium Edition just prior to me digging into it. I think it's nice of the lady on the front to salute the logo.

And here's the ever-so-shiny back of the box. It has screenshots! And a better image of the contents inside than I will ever take! And the game won an award of some sort from a different publication! Impressive!

And here's the PSP case, which has the same art on the front and back as the box it was inside of, like some kind of insidious Russian nesting doll.

Here's a nice 33-track "Musical Selections" CD. And inside of it:

The only bummer about this CD? There's no artwork on the back of the CD case, and you need to actually pull out the insert and open it up to find a track listing. A weird oversight, but still a nice addition to the package.

No good special edition is complete without a poster. This one has birds!

Not only are there birds, but the poster is functional too. On the back side, you'll find this map of the regions you'll be exploring in-game.

The package also contains this tiny metal "Bracer Emblem," the symbol of a group that the game's heroes join up with. It's blurry in this picture a.) because the camera I used isn't good at taking pictures of small things, b.) because I'm bad at taking pictures, or c.) all of the above.

And here's the complete collection! If you're aching for some old-school RPG action on your PSP, you can pick up The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky next week. The regular version will retail for $29.99, whereas the contents of this Premium Edition will set you back $39.99.

If you want to know more about the Legend of Heroes series and the developer behind it, Falcom, be sure to check out my GI Classic write-up on Falcom in the April issue of Game Informer.

And how is Trails in the Sky as a game? I'll be taking it home this weekend to test out, so look for impressions soon.
