Sony Touts PS3's 2011 3D Offerings
Unsurprisingly, given the company's cross-division push behind home 3D technology, Sony is trumpeting the PlayStation 3's industry-leading 3D content pipeline.
Along with the list of quality first-party 2011 PS3 titles that support 3D, Sony is bragging that 83,000 downloads of the free Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2011 3D sneak peek went out in the first week, and that 20 percent of Killzone 3 single-player demo downloads were of the 3D version.
The list of titles (see below) is solid, and yet I still can't bring myself to care even a little bit. First off, 83,000 downloads of free pictures of pretty ladies in tiny bikinis is not the most impressive number I've ever seen. Second, the chances of me dropping more than a thousand dollars on a new TV and stupid glasses that drive my wife's eyes bonkers just so I can get stereoscopic 3D on a tiny percentage of my entertainment content – when my existing HDTV still works great and looks fantastic – are nonexistent. Something tells me I'm not the only one.
Hate aside, if you're into 3D for whatever reason, PS3 is definitely the platform for you. Check out the excellent first-party 3D lineup for console in 2011, among the almost 30 3D-enabled titles:
- Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
- MLB 11: The Show
- SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs
- Killzone 3
- Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
- Motorstorm Apocalypse
