With Sony's advanced NGP handheld hardware on the horizon, the console maker announced today that it is dropping the retail price of its six-year-old PlayStation Portable.

According to a press release sent out by Sony, the PSP will retail for $129.99 beginning on February 27. The current PSP Core Pack sells for $169.99. This move brings the unit down to the current price point of another handheld that's about to be replaced, the Nintendo DS.
