Sony Announces PSP Price Drop

With Sony's advanced NGP handheld hardware on the horizon, the console maker announced today that it is dropping the retail price of its six-year-old PlayStation Portable.

According to a press release sent out by Sony, the PSP will retail for $129.99 beginning on February 27. The current PSP Core Pack sells for $169.99. This move brings the unit down to the current price point of another handheld that's about to be replaced, the Nintendo DS. The base DS model now sells for $129.99, with the DSi going for $149.99, and the larger DSi XL retailing for $169.99.

In addition, Sony is also adding 13 new games to its PSP Greatest Hits and Favorites collections. Here are the new Greatest Hits and Favorites titles announced in the press release:
