Gran Turismo 5 developer Polyphony Digital has opened its books and revealed that the latest version in its sim-racing series has sold more than six million units around the globe.

This sales chart from the company shows that Europe is the leading seller of the game, accounting for almost four million in sales, with North America nabbing second place with over a million in sales. Surprisingly, Polyphony's home country of Japan only makes up for just over a half-a-million in sales. Then again, looking at the historical sales chart, Japan has usually notched third place in the franchise's history.

With greatest hits status surely still to come, it'll be interesting to see how GT 5 stacks up against the other entries in the series in the long run.
