Batman: Arkham City Will Only Be A Single-Player Experience

by Ben Reeves on Feb 14, 2011 at 09:45 AM

Since Warner Bros. Interactive announced a sequel to 2009’s hit Batman: Arkham Asylum, people have speculated that Robin would be in the game, and that the title would feature some kind of co-op or competitive multiplayer. The truth is finally out.

In a recent interview with IGN, Rocksteady Studio’s game director Sefton Hill killed all hope that Batman: Arkham City would feature multiplayer. “There have been a number of rumors circulating about a multiplayer mode in Batman: Arkham City,” said Hill. “So let me start by saying, once and for all, that Batman: Arkham City is a ‘single-player only’ experience.”

Later Hill admitted, “I can honestly say it would not have been possible to deliver Arkham City the way we wanted to if we'd have added multiplayer.”

Maybe this is for the best. A lack of multiplayer gives Rocksteady more time to focus on polishing the game’s single player mode. And honestly, if they game featured multiplayer, who would be able to compete against Batman? The game would be completely imbalanced; the guy is unbeatable.
