HTC Partnering With OnLive

by Matthew Kato on Feb 09, 2011 at 07:38 AM

Taiwanese phone makers HTC are investing $40 million in games-on-demand service OnLive, including the purchase of 5.3 million OnLive shares, reports The Wall Street Journal.

No concrete plans have been announced, but OnLive has previously talked about bringing its cloud-based gaming model to mobile phones, and this would be a great way for HTC to get OnLive's titles on its smart phones. Currently for PCs and Macs, OnLive offers streamed games via browser from 20 publishers, including the likes of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two, THQ, and more. OnLive also offers a home console setup that lets you get the service through your TV.

While OnLive tech delivers the games, there have been criticisms of its lag time, frame rate, and video compression in some instances.
