See Plans

Madden creative director Ian Cummings (with his head in his hands) has already posted his first blog about Madden NFL 12, and it's not all despair. Cummings has revealed a few of the game's new features.

In his blog, Cummings – with just three button presses – shows how you can go from the playcalling screen to a surprise onside kick (ie. an onside kick from a normal kick-off formation). It's a small feature, but one of those cool things that you see coaches try in real life from time to time. Cummings admits that he resisted the feature last year because he thought it would be too exploitable, but he thinks he's figured out a way to make it doable. Head over to the blog to see Cummings' quick video showing it off.

The other feature Cummings debuts is tuner sets. Already used in games like NHL and NCAA, tuner sets allow the development team to tweak parts of the game's code without having to push a full update. Definitely a good thing.

Anybody looking for improvements to Franchise mode? Don't worry, Cummings is already saying that Madden 12 will address the long-neglected mode. Stay tuned!
