3DS Versions Of Pac-Man, Galaga In the Works
Namco's Pac-Man and Galaga franchises have shown up on pretty much every platform imaginable, so it should come as now surprise that the developer is working on versions for Nintendo's upcoming handheld. Here are some of the first details on the projects.
While neither series seems like it needs the bells and whistles of the 3DS, both will take advantage of the new tech, for better or worse. Galaga Dimensions will reportedly put players "directly into the gunner seat" and feature on-rails shooting that uses gyroscopic controls. Namco states that the game will be a blend of arcade shooter and virtual reality, which sounds alright, but not really like Galaga.
Pac-Man Tilt sounds like an equally large departure from what made the series a classic. The game will feature 2D platforming levels, and players can manipulate the environment by tilting the entire 3DS system, thanks to its accelerometers. You'll also use "pinball flippers, spring boards, and other objects" to get Pac-Man through the environments. We'll have to wait a while longer to see how these games turn out, but I for one wouldn't mind just seeing a new Pac-Man Championship style 3DS game with a little 3D thrown in to make the levels pop out.
What do you think of Namco's new titles: Are they a welcomed change for two stale franchises, or is the company fixing something that ain't broken?
