Deadwood Creator Adapting Heavy Rain To Film

by Matt Bertz on Jan 27, 2011 at 05:20 AM

The brilliant writer/producer who created the best Western show in the history of the planet is taking his talents to video game film adaptations.

This past May we learned that The Lord of the Rings film producers Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne acquired the rights to Quantic Dream's noir serial killer tale. Now Variety reports the duo has tapped Deadwood creator David Milch to adapt it to the silver screen. The film is the centerpiece of a first-look deal between Shaye and Lynne's new Unique Features film studio and Warner Bros. Milch will start working on Heavy Rain once he wraps up the first season of his new HBO horse-racing series, Luck.

"David Milch's incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on 'Heavy Rain,' " Shaye told Variety.

Fans broke out the pitchforks when HBO abandoned Deadwood, but when he's focused and not strung out on heroin Milch is one of the most talented writers in the biz.
