Activision Recommends The Closure Of Bizarre Creations

by Matthew Kato on Jan 19, 2011 at 02:54 AM

It hasn't been a good partnership between Activision and Blur developer Bizarre Creations. The publisher bought the racing studio in 2007, but the commercial failure (at least in Activision's eyes) of Blur put the pair on rocky ground. Now, Activision is recommending that the studio close its doors for good.

Late last year, Activision said that it was trying to sell off the studio, but according to Develop magazine, no buyers could be found. Thus, Activision is advising that Bizarre Creations close – a recommendation that the developer reportedly accepts.

"I want to be clear," Coddy Johnson, Activision worldwide studio' chief operating officer told Develop, "our first choice was to try and keep this group together and find a buyer for the studio. This decision comes after a few months of exhausted examination of a number of different options across the board." Johnson said that Activision went to "pretty much anyone you can imagine in the industry" in an attempt to find a buyer, but to no avail.

Bizarre Creations employs approximately 200 people. Good luck to everyone at the studio, and it's small consolation, but we can safely say that gamers the world over have enjoyed your games.
