PS3 Portal 2 Comes With Cross-Platform Support

At last year E3 Valve's Gabe Newell promised that the just-announced PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 would be home to the best console version of the game. Valve is trying to make that a reality with the announcement that the PlayStation 3 version of the game will also include a download code for the PC or Mac SteamPlay version of the title.

Players will be able to download the game as long as their PSN and Steam accounts are linked, and from there they'll enjoy the benefits of Steam including cross-platform play, cross-platform chat, and the ability to start playing on one platform and finish on another.

"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Gabe Newell in a press release. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."

Portal 2 also comes out for the Xbox 360 when the game ships on April 21.
