Missile Command Slated For The Silver Screen

by Meagan Marie on Jan 13, 2011 at 03:46 AM

It's no longer surprising for a game franchise heavy on narrative or character development to be optioned for the big screen. It is somewhat staggering, however, when significantly more abstract titles are given the same treatment. According to Variety, arcade classic Missile Command has been picked up for the silver screen by 20th Century Fox.

Adapting the property will be Dracula Year Zero scribes Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, with Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark at the helm as producers. Atari CEO Jim Wilson has attached himself to the project as executive prouder.

Other than a few plot points about protecting cities and civilians from a barrage of missiles, there is little to draw from in terms of source material. In this regard, it seems the writers will have all the creative freedom they desire.
