Alienware Announces Its First 3D Notebook

by Matt Bertz on Jan 06, 2011 at 09:10 AM

Not all dorm rooms can fit a 55-inch HDTV for playing games. If your space is tight, the Alienware M17x R3 may be the perfect solution.

The latest high-powered gaming notebook from the wunderkinds at Alienware is packed to its extraterrestrial gills with new technology -- a  full HD17-inch display, 3D support, an Intel Core i7 chipset, high-end graphics card options from both Nvidia and AMD, plus, coolest of all, an HDMI-in port that allows you to use the display to play your Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Gamers with itchy trigger fingers can pick this up next week; prices start at $1,499.

If you can wait a while to upgrade to the M17x, Alienware is working on a Wireless HD feature that allows you to stream the action from your notebook directly to an HDTV. Some TVs, such as the Vizio that Alienware used during the demo, have the receiver built in. If your HDTV lacking that feature, an external receiver will be released when Alienware adds the functionality to the M17x later this year.

Alienware also announced an upgrade to its popular Aurora desktop line. The new liquid-cooled Aurora PCs are loaded with 3D support, the new Sandy Bridge i5 or i7 quadcore chipsets, and up to 400W of graphical prowess with a dual graphics card array.
