Linux Returning To The PS3?

by Matthew Kato on Jan 05, 2011 at 06:20 AM

A hacker has created some tools which can apparently alter the system's firmware, which is a first step towards further homebrew alterations – including the possible return of Linux to the system.

When Sony released the new-form PS3 Slim model, it disabled the use of other OS such as Linux with the new unit due to piracy concerns. Now, however, hacker KaKaRoTo has developed a set of tools that lets people alter the system's firmware, which is apparently the first step towards possibly allowing people to install things like Linux and other homebrew tinkering.

Anyone out there into this kind of stuff?
