Rift Launching March 1

by Adam Biessener on Jan 04, 2011 at 12:06 PM

Trion Worlds' inaugural MMORPG, Rift, will be going live on the first of March per a press release from the company.

Currently in beta, Rift challenges players to fight back dynamically generated elemental invasions that will go so far as to take over friendly cities if left unchecked. The fantasy MMORPG's gameplay is closely related to EverQuest and World of Warcraft, though its innovative class progression system allows a single character to mix and match a wide variety of abilities within his or her archetype to create builds far more unique than the simple talent trees many MMO vets are familiar with can allow.

Personally, I'm looking forward to digging into a new take on dynamic content – the next generation of MMOs looks to be making great strides in that regard, and Rift is the first high-profile one of the lot to launch. How about you? Any chance this will draw your gaze away from Cataclysm?

P.S.: My thanks to whomever at Trion managed to get the stupid subhead "Planes of Telara" chopped off of the game's title.
