Xbox Live Counts Down To New Year's Eve

by Matt Miller on Dec 21, 2010 at 11:05 AM

Major discounts and a big sweepstakes are in place to lure players into enjoying Xbox Live over the holidays. Beginning today, December 21, and ending December 31 at 11:59 P.M., Microsoft is attempting to entice the Xbox Live crowd into using and buying as much content as possible.

Alright, fair enough. Microsoft does that every day. What makes these dates significant are the deals that are in place to purchase discounted games and DLC, as well as a pretty sweet sweepstakes that you'll automatically enter by using Xbox Live.

Games including Super Meat Boy, Castle Crashers, Toy Soldiers, Comic Jumper, and Carcassonne are all between 33-50% off their normal prices. There are also a bunch of daily deals, which will offer major discounts during one 24 hour period of the promotion. Today, that means some big discounts on Red Dead Redemption DLC, and tomorrow you'll be able to get Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for half price.

Purchase any of these games or DLC content pieces and you'll get an entry in the sweepstakes. Play Halo: Reach or Fable III online and you'll get an entry in the sweepstakes. Watch Netflix during the next 11 days? Get an entry. Buy a discounted movie on Zune? Entry. We sense a theme developing here.

So, what's the big prize? Two lucky gamers will receive a home entertainment package that includes a fifty-inch 3D HDTV, a 360 with Kinect, 4,000 Microsoft points, and a 12 month Xbox Live Gold Membership. When you think about it, you probably have a pretty good chance at winning. There can't be that many people on Xbox Live. Right?
