Wedbush Morgan industry analyst Michael Pachter is looking into the future of home consoles, and although the mists are murky, he believes that Nintendo will be first to come out with a new console. Then again, that doesn't necessarily mean that Nintendo will kick off the next wave of systems.

"No, I don't think that Nintendo will strike first in the next console generation," Pachter told Industry Gamers. "Rather, I think that they will strike last in the current console generation. I think that their next console will be on par technologically with the current PS3 and Xbox 360, and don't expect them to advance technology at all with their next offering." Pachter went on to point out, however, that technology and gameplay are different matters, and that he though that Nintendo would "undoubtedly advance game play" with this Wii successor.

He was also self-effacing, pointing out how he's gotten previous predictions wrong, such as his belief that Nintendo would come out with a Wii HD system last year. Regardless, this time he could very well be right since it's not very likely that Nintendo could technologically make up so much ground so fast.
