Releasing on January 25, Dead Space 2 should be one of the first big hits of the new year. If you're the impatient type, you won't have to wait that long to get a taste of Isaac Clarke's next gripping adventure. Today, EA announced that a demo of the game will release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on December 21. It looks like our holiday break just got a little more terrifying.

The demo will take Isaac on a harrowing journey through the Church of Unitology, which is in the grips of a Necromorph outbreak in the Sprawl. You'll also get a glimpse of some of the game's new weapons and gameplay, including the new Javelin gun, an updated stasis recharge mechanic, and the enhanced telekinesis ability. Isaac is going to look extra dapper in the game's new advanced suit, which features jet propulsion that allows our hero to better navigate in zero-gravity conditions.

“The holidays are a great time to enjoy all forms of entertainment, and we can’t wait to give horror and action adventure gamers a taste of what awaits them in Dead Space 2,” said Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis. “Releasing the demo five weeks before launch will not only re-connect players with our hero Isaac Clarke, but will also give them the opportunity to experience firsthand various jaw-dropping scenarios. It’s gonna be awesome.”
