Robots Take Over Tokyo In Binary Domain

by Meagan Marie on Dec 01, 2010 at 03:21 AM

Kicking off December with word of a new release, SEGA debuted its newest property today – Binary Domain. A squad-based shooter spearheaded by Toshihiro Nagoshi – the creator best-known for the Yakuza series – Binary Domain puts players in the fray of a Tokyo overrun by robots in 2080.

Players will take on these rampant robots as an international peace-keeping team that soon begins to realize they should be challenging authority instead of taking orders. Sega propositions an interesting question: “Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?”

“What I wanted to create this time was a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama,” says Nagoshi. “The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”

Binary Domain is in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out a handful of screens and the debut trailer below.
