Microsoft Launches Xbox Live Rewards Program

by Matt Helgeson on Dec 01, 2010 at 05:39 AM

Filling up your gas tank...buying groceries...buying a sweater....pretty much everything you do now earns you some kind of "rewards" in the form of nebulous points that can be later turned in for discounts or merchandise. Not to be outdone by Sony, which recently announced its PlayStation Rewards program, Microsoft is now joining the fray with Xbox Live Rewards.

Official MS mouthpiece Major Nelson broke the news on his blog today, revealing a Xbox Live Rewards website where you can go to sign up for the program, which is free to all Gold level Xbox Live members. Once you join, you'll be able to earn Microsoft Points by doing many of the things you're already doing on Xbox Live.

The chart below shows some of the things you can do to earn Microsoft Points, and the attendant point values of each of those actions. However, there is likely more to this picture, as the Nelson says you can earn rewards by "watching movies and sports, playing games and more."
