Bungie's Eric Osborne Talks Reach DLC

by Dan Ryckert on Nov 30, 2010 at 05:45 AM

Bungie is releasing the first DLC for Halo Reach today, and their writer/community developer Eric Osborne answered a few questions for us about the game and their plans for its future.

Invasion was the most notable new mode in Halo Reach. What has the fan reaction been so far to this new game type?

That definitely depends on the player. The great thing about having a large online population is that we can continue to support a wealth of game modes aimed at a wide variety of player preferences. The Noble Map Pack fits nicely into that plan of attack and Breakpoint offers players another map that will see heavy rotation in the Invasion playlist.

What else can we expect from Reach DLC as we move forward?

Right now, we’re focused on the Noble Map Pack and our ongoing support of Halo: Reach. On November 30th, we’ll weave the new DLC maps into existing playlists and provide a temporary playlist for those who want nothing but Noble right out of the gate. Soon after, we’ll also introduce the official MLG Playlist and begin rolling out multiple Grab Bag playlists, beginning with Firefight Versus. Beyond that…we know nothing!

Tell us about the strengths of each map (what modes are best for each, etc)

We wanted to make sure each map supported a large variety of popular game modes. Anchor 9 is a small, symmetrical space designed for fast-paced Slayer and Objective games, Tempest is a medium-sized symmetrical outdoor map that can play host to small and large scale battles (with or without vehicles), and Breakpoint is the largest of the three, designed to support both Invasion and Big Team Battle.

Can we look forward to new achievements with the Noble Map Pack? Can you give us some examples?

Sure can! There are seven new achievements tied to the Noble Map Pack worth a total of 250 gamerscore. “You Blew It Up!” requires players to deliver a bomb and blow the doors off of Breakpoint’s Research Facility in a matchmaking game of Invasion.
