Post-Thanksgiving Recovery: Word Puzzles

by Ben Reeves on Nov 26, 2010 at 10:26 AM

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, so you’re either at the mall hating your life, or hiding at home trying to recover from the food bomb you just dropped in your gut. Here’s our post holiday cure: relax with a glass of Eggnog (that’s right you can start drinking that again), and burn some calories with a word puzzle.

Are you familiar with words chains? It’s a game I made up (no, I didn’t) where you take a word and change one letter at a time to make other words. The goal is to see how many steps it takes to turn one word into another. For example, let’s take the arcade classic Pong and turn it into the modern FPS Halo.

Pong
Pony
Bony
Bond
Bend
Bead
Beat
Belt
Bell
Ball
Hall
Halo

There you go, Pong to Halo in eleven steps. Think you can do faster? Maybe you’d like a different challenge. Can you turn Pure into Blur? Or Tron into Doom? Or Klax into Call of Duty: Black Ops? Good luck.
