Halo Wars Losing Stat-Tracking, Dedicated Forums

by Phil Kollar on Nov 22, 2010 at 01:00 PM

Are you a fan of the Halo Wars brand of console-based real-time strategy gameplay? Well, get in your time playing multiplayer while it's still meaningful. Microsoft has made it official that the game will be losing online stat-tracking as well as its website and dedicated forums less than two years after its release.

The bad news was delivered last week on the (soon-to-be-gone) Halo Wars forums. Moderator Cocopjojo informed the community that the Halo Wars forums will be closed down on December 15, and the community will be redirected to the Halo Waypoint forums. Along with the move, online stat-tracking will be removed from the game, which the mod says "wasn't a decision made lightly."

On the (barely existent) plus side, the game will be receiving a title update to go along with the change. Unfortunately, all the update does is fix a bug with the Theater mode and do some backend work to make sure people will still be able to play online games smoothly despite the lack of stat-tracking. Apparently numerous other fixes were planned but couldn't be included. So...yikes.

For a game that marked the death of a talented development studio in Ensemble but still managed to be rather good, it's quite sad to see it fading away so quickly and unceremoniously.
