Chinese Show Off Suspiciously Familiar Device At Tech Fair

by Jeff Cork on Nov 19, 2010 at 10:37 AM

Tech fairs offer manufacturers a chance to show off new devices to potential investors and the press. Regardless of how commercially viable some of the tech may be, it’s at least an interesting opportunity to see some slightly off-kilter ideas made real. With that in mind, meet the i-dong.

The i-dong (I’ll wait until you’ve settle down, class. I’m patient. You’ll see.) was shown off at the China Hi-Tech Fair in Shenzhen, China. According to Nikkei Business Publications’ Tech-On blog, it’s essentially a camera/controller combo that could be used with PCs or devices connected to televisions. The controller looks similar to the PlayStation Move’s knobby-ended creation. The camera looks like a Kinect. It’s being sold in China now for about $223, in a bundle that includes the sensor, two controllers, and a few other gizmos.

At the fair, a ping-pong game was demoed on the i-dong. Somehow, I don’t think Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft have anything to worry about.
