Shinji Mikami Talks About Being Acquired

by Joe Juba on Nov 03, 2010 at 06:23 AM

Last week, ZeniMax Media acquired Tango Gameworks, the studio run by Shinji Mikami (best known as the mind behind the Resident Evil series). Now Mikami is opening up about why he was in the market to get bought.

"We didn't want to have to live hand-to-mouth as a studio," Mikami told Famitsu (via 1UP). "If we did that, we'd have to take on work we weren't interested in just to pay the bills. That would then force us to expand our staff, and before you know it, we'd be thinking 'This isn't how we meant it to go.'"

The choice to go with ZeniMax (which is the parent company of respected studios like Bethesda and id) wasn't an arbitrary one. "Playing their stuff, you can really tell that they're willing to take whatever time is needed to make great games," Mikami explains. "It shows that their management and financial strength is such that they're able to let that process happen. That was my first impression, and it was a positive one."

Mikami is apparently very happy with the situation. Once his new studio puts out a title, gamers will probably be happy, too.
