Dance Central Sequel In Pre-Production

by Joe Juba on Nov 01, 2010 at 10:29 AM

You haven't played Dance Central yet, since it doesn't come out until Thursday (along with the rest of Kinect's launch line-up). However, the team at Harmonix is betting that you'll like it, since Dance Central 2 is already in the works.

Speaking to MCV, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulous said "“I think that Dance Central has an opportunity to spark a phenomenon, much like the original Guitar Hero did...I sure as hell hope there will be a sequel. We certainly have a lot of creative ambitions for the future of Dance Central."

Having ideas isn't the same as working on them, of course, so project director Kasson Crooker eliminates the ambiguity: "“We’re looking at basic pre-production for Dance Central 2 but are mostly working on DLC right now...We want to make sure people like Dance Central first. If that happens, we can look at what they enjoyed about that experience and decide if we want to offer an addition to it.”

So there you have it: DLC for the original is the current priority, but the sequel is certainly in the works. Given the other franchises Harmonix created (like Rock Band and Guitar Hero), the team is probably wise to plan for success.
