Microsoft is touting its usage statistics, and it looks like we're all spending a lot of time on the service.

Microsoft's latest press release cites several details from recent findings by Knowledge Networks, a consumer products and services research firm. According to the research, there are now 25 million Xbox Live members, and they're spending an average of more than 40 hours per month on the service. That adds up to a billion hours per month. Microsoft should get to unlock an achievement or something.

While much of that time is spent on games, it's clear that Xbox Live has also become a wider entertainment destination for many people. Between Facebook and Twitter integration, instant viewing of films and TV on Netflix, and the soon-to-launch ESPN service, many viewers seem to be eschewing more traditional media portals and using Xbox Live instead.

Those extremely high numbers are only likely to increase in the coming months: Xbox Live is expanding from 26 countries to 35 in November.
