[UPDATE] Inafune Quits Capcom
UPDATE: We reached out to Capcom about Inafune's departure and received the following regarding Inafune's departure from the company:
“Mr. Inafune submitted his resignation on Tuesday October 19th. His resignation is effective from the end of November, but given outstanding vacation time he will leave the company at the end of October. Inafune-san resigned for personal reasons and we wish him success in his new endeavors.”
Veteran Capcom producer and manager Keiji Inafune has announced that he will be leaving the company the end of the month. The resignation, which he revealed on his personal blog, ends his 23-year tenure with the company.
On his blog, Inafune wrote that he thought being a manager meant working closely with subordinates while speaking your dreams. After expressing recent unhappiness in his job, he says that he doesn’t believe that he is capable of doing both things anymore.
Inafune was head of Capcom’s R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division, and most recently served as producer to Dead Rising 2. Over the past few years he’s been an outspoken critic of the state of game development in Japan, saying that it’s generally stagnant and lagging behind the West.
"I'm leaving Capcom with the intention of starting my life over," he wrote, adding that he isn’t planning on taking a break after leaving Capcom.
"People that really know me, can see where I'm coming from,” he offered as way of explanation. “I'm not a regular dude. It's probably because I'm strange."
Eurogamer is reporting that Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi will be taking on Inafune’s former role at the company beginning November 1.
