AT&T DVR Technology Coming To 360

by Matt Miller on Oct 08, 2010 at 09:45 AM

Three years after the announcement, it looks like AT&T's download and watch TV system is coming to Microsoft's console -- with at least one big catch.

Engadget posted a report yesterday regarding the details of AT&T U-Verse coming to Xbox 360. According to the leaked info, the service will be available on November 7. That should coincide nicely with Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Live update, which in part will make the dashboard more user-friendly to new Kinect users.

U-Verse coming to 360 was announced way back in 2007 at the Consumer Electronics Show, but there was little in the way of follow-through on the promise until now.

When U-Verse finally appears on 360, it will be an application that is activated from the 360 dashboard, and it should allow 360 users to download and watch TV directly on their 360, effectively transforming the machine into a DVR.

So what's the problem? You need to already have another U-Verse enabled DVR in the house to make U-Verse work on your 360. Also, the service will only work on systems with a hard drive, for obvious reasons.

What do you think? Something you might use? Could this be the next phenomenon in the vein of Netflix Streaming?
