Analysts Rip Panasonic's Jungle
We're still getting our heads around the idea of Panasonic's MMO handheld, Jungle, and we're not alone. Industry analysts are starting to dissect the chances of the handheld, and according to them it doesn't look good.
Bill Pidgeon of M2 Research and David Cole over at DFC Intelligence have already dubbed the device a "non-starter," and Colin Sebastian at Lazard doesn't seem to high on the Jungle either.
"[It's] an uphill challenge to launch a new portable gaming device unless there is some meaningful differentiation or access to proprietary content," says Sebastian.
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich echoes this sentiment, saying, "With any hardware platform regardless of its quality, the absence of strong third-party support will most certainly end in failure."
With scant few details about the system and its support, Divnich and Sebastian's skepticism about its content is healthy, albeit early.
The purpose behind the Jungle is to let MMO players play their games on the go, via a handheld. While it sounds enticing, it remains to be seen how many MMO players out there would make use of the Jungle and what it offers.
