Nintendo Expects Big Sales For 3DS

by Matthew Kato on Sep 29, 2010 at 04:28 AM

Nintendo has released its sales forecast for the fiscal year ending in March 2011, and although overall software and hardware has been adjusted downward slightly, Nintendo is expecting the 3DS to do pretty well.

Sales of four million units worldwide are expected by the end of March 2011 – which would be a month after its U.S./Europe release and two months after its Japanese debut.

On the software side, Nintendo says that it expects 3DS software to clear the 15 million mark. It's unclear, however, if that's 15 million before the end of the fiscal year in March or for the full year.

In general, Nintendo also revised some of its hardware/software numbers for the full year: The forecast for DS units is down to 23.5 million from 30 million, while the Wii is expected to be only slightly off the mark – down to 17.5 million from 18. Likewise, software numbers for these systems are expected to drop slightly.
