Mii Support, Internet Browser, More Details For 3DS
Nintendo is currently holding a press conference in Japan revealing new details on their upcoming 3DS handheld. Two potentially exciting bits about the hardware have been revealed: the system will feature a built-in web browser, and it will allow users to make Miis like on the Wii.
Since the event is being held in Japan, we're still gathering information piecemeal from a few sources, but here's what we know so far: You can use the camera on the 3DS to take a picture of your face, and the "Mii Studio" will auto-create a Mii using that. You'll also be able to save pictures of your Mii to an SD card. It's unclear if there will be some way to take currently created Miis and transfer them from your Wii to your 3DS.
Like the DSi, the 3DS will feature some bizarre but fun photo-taking and editing options, such as the ability to merge two pictures together.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata also spoke about the handheld's always-on tag mode, which allows it to quietly exchange data with anyone else who you pass who has a 3DS. It can exchange data even for games that you're not currently playing, and a light on the upper-right of the unit will light up to signify when you have new tag data.
We don't have many details on the web browser yet, but it's clear that Internet capabilities are going to be a big deal with the 3DS. Iwata noted that while in sleep mode, the 3DS will be able to automatically download free software, updates, rankings, and more.
