Is The Capcom/Level-5 Team-Up A New Ace Attorney? UPDATE: No!

by Phil Kollar on Sep 27, 2010 at 07:20 AM

UPDATE: While Capcom and Level-5 may be collaborating on an upcoming game, that project is apparently not the next entry in the Ace Attorney series.

The rumors began swirling following a tweet from Level-5's Jiro Ishii (see original story below), but Ishii has since clarified that he is not working on Ace Attorney, posting: "A misunderstanding seems to be spreading, so let me say that I'm currently working only on Time Travelers."

Oh, well. Hopefully, a true Ace Attorney sequel is in the works somewhere.

Original Story:
Earlier this week
, we learned that Level-5 and Capcom are teaming up on a new project. Now according to a Twitter post from a Level-5 employee, we have an idea of what that project may be.

Andriasang brings us this piece from the Twitter page of Level-5's Jiro Ishii. The post in question is translated by Andriasang as "Huh? Oh, Gyakuten XX. I'm making it, with Mr. Takumi!" Gyakuten is, of course, the Japanese name for the Ace Attorney series, and Takumi is likely referring to Shu Takumi, the director of said series.

Capcom's main line of Ace Attorney games has been dormant since 2008's Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. The spin-off, Ace Attorney Investigations, had its first sequel shown off at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Without official confirmation, it's unclear if the "Gyakuten XX" mentioned by Ishii is a return to the regular Ace Attorney games, another Investigations spin-off, or something else altogether.

Andriasang cautions that he could be joking or there could be some other explanation for the Twitter post. We've reached out to Capcom for an official comment and will update if we get one.
