Aliens, Kittens, And Thongs Are Ready For Download

by Matt Miller on Sep 22, 2010 at 01:20 PM

Five new games worth your time are headed to XBLA and PlayStation Network this week. Watch the trailers.

DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue is the sequel to a game that came out just a couple of months back, but that doesn't mean it's not worth checking out. The game continues the amusing adventures of DeathSpank through a world of ridiculous role-playing cliches, and melds Diablo-style action and upgrades with humorous dialogue and design to great effect. The game is available on PlayStation Network for $14.99, or XBLA for 1200 points ($15).

Another sequel, Alien Breed 2: Assault, continues the episodic franchise about totally killing, like, a lot of aliens. Seriously, the game is pretty sweet if you're looking for a twin-stick shooter with a little narrative context attached. You move through darkened environments and drop the bad guys with an array of upgradeable weapons. The game includes two-player online cooperative modes and a new survivor mode. Alien Breed 2 is available this week on XBLA for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

Next up: Blade Kitten, Sonic Adventure, and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter

Blade Kitten offers a stylish if slightly shallow action/platform experience. Players take on the rule of bounty hunter Kit Ballard in this sci-fi, anime-tinged game from Krome Studios. You can navigate her through high jumps and climb along walls and ceilings with ease. Kit also has a pretty sweet floating sword that is used to chop up her enemies. Read our full review right here, or check out the trailer below. Blade Kitten is available on PSN for $14.99 or XBLA for 1200 points ($15).

Sonic Adventure already landed on XBLA last week, but this week sees its release on PSN as well. The game is a straight-up re-release of the first Sonic Dreamcast game, albeit with some spiced up 720p graphics. The game first established some of the high-speed 3D hijinks that continue to define many Sonic games today. Sonic Adventure will run you $9.99, and you'll be able to play the game on your PlayStation 3 until your hair turns blue.

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter offers exactly what you'd expect out of a Serious Sam game. Updating the original second game in the series with hi-def graphics, The Second Encounter offers players the option to shoot bad guys by themselves, cooperatively, or even shoot each other in deathmatch mode. Serious Sam is known for its frantic gameplay style, with an absurd number of enemies constantly charging your position. If that's your thing, you shouldn't find much to complain about in this latest addition to the franchise, which is hitting XBLA this week for 1200 points ($15).
