The Bugs Bite Back In Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon

by Joe Juba on Sep 17, 2010 at 10:28 AM

Earth Defense Force 2017 is basically the best bad game ever made, so much so that it obtained a devoted cult following. Fans of the original (like me) were pumped to see hints of sequel, but today our hopes were confirmed. D3 is publishing another EDF game called Insect Armageddon, and it's hitting in spring 2011.

Insect Armageddon will have almost everything fans of the last game had on their wish lists, including online co-op for up to three players in campaign mode, as well as a six-player survival mode. Over 150 new weapons and four upgradeable armor sets will ensure that you're ready to take down the alien threat in the city of New Detroit.

EDF 2017 was developed by Sandlot, but this new version is coming from the folks at Vicious Cycle – the studio behind Dead Head Fred and Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. With quirky (and funny) games like that under its belt, Vicious Cycle stands a good chance of replicating the campy B-movie vibe that made the original so charming.

Check out the first two screenshots below, complete with a new jetpack (which will probably useless, just like all of the other vehicles in EDF):
