Original GoldenEye Developer Bashes Activision Over Remake

by Ben Reeves on Sep 03, 2010 at 09:43 AM

Breaking news: Activision may be motivated by profit. It’s not uncommon for the industry giant to get slammed for its business practices. The newest person to take a swing at the publisher is Martin Hollis, one of the designers who worked on the original N64 version of GoldenEye. According to Hollis, Activision doesn’t care about the quality of the GoldenEye brand, and only revived the franchises because it cared about making money.

In a recent interview with The Official Nintendo Magazine, the ex-Rare developer said, “I find it hard to picture Activision's top management being excited about the original and wanting to do it justice. In fact, I find it hard to imagine them being excited about any game. It's my perception that they are trying to be EA, only more so. I think they are doing a fine job at that."

Of course, Hollis also went on to talk favorable about the developer Activision handed the GoldenEye remake project off to. "I know and like Eurocom. I think they are a good company. I'm confident they have done their very best," Hollis said.

GoldenEye 007 comes out on the Wii on November 2, so we’ll have to wait until then to judge the game based on its own merits.
