Xbox Live Gold Membership Price Bump Starting November

by Meagan Marie on Aug 30, 2010 at 07:14 AM

Following the news of Nintendo dropping prices on their handheld systems, Microsoft is countering with a significantly less appealing price modification of their own. Starting November 1, the one-month, three-month, and year subscriptions to Xbox Live will increase in price. The new rates can be found below.

Current
1M Gold:  $7.99
3M Gold:  $19.99
12M Gold:  $49.99

Starting Nov 1, 2010

1M Gold:  $9.99
3M Gold:  $24.99
12M Gold:  $59.99

Major Nelson, who just dropped the news, had this to say:

“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.”

With the addition of new features like Avatars, Netflix integration and Facebook compatibility, a significant amount of content has been added to the service since Xbox Live’s launch. Still, do you think the increase is warranted?

Nelson encourages users to lock in a significantly discounted price before the increase is implemented in November.
