THQ Announces WWE Universe Mode For Smackdown Vs. Raw 2011

by Dan Ryckert on Aug 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM

In a press release sent out today, THQ announced the new WWE Universe mode for Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. Details aren't made entirely clear, but the release says gameplay scenarios in this mode will "change based on player decisions, allowing for new rivalries, alliances, championship matches and more spontaneous WWE action in and out of the ring."

This may mean that WWE Universe Mode will play significantly different than the returning Road to Wrestlemania, which featured scripted and fairly linear storylines. Perhaps this new mode will allow players to pick anyone on the roster, and then forge their own path through the WWE's schedule. Obviously, this would mean the omission of situation-specific interviews and scripted events, but it could be interesting if done right.

The release also states that Road to Wrestlemania will return with "significant updates and new storylines," as well as the ability to roam locker room areas and break into impromptu matches. No word yet on whether or not Daniel Bryan and the Nexus stable will be included, despite the fact that they're currently the top focus on WWE Raw.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 is set to release on October 26th, and fans who purchase it new will receive free DLC that includes Chris Masters (yay?) and Halloween attire for Rey Mysterio and Kelly Kelly.
