Netflix and EPIX Announce Watch Instantly Partnership

by Meagan Marie on Aug 11, 2010 at 12:50 PM

Netflix and EPIX announced a partnership today that will bring a significant increase of entertainment products to the former’s Watch Instantly service, with noteworthy additions from entities such as Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM.

EPIX – an entertainment company that offers a premium entertainment channel as well as on-demand and online services – is a mutual venture between Viacom’s Paramount Pictures division, MGM, and Lionsgate. This means that all devices that draw from the digital Netflix catalogue – gaming consoles included – will have access to a greatly augmented Instant Watch library starting September 1.  New movies from the partner studios will be added to Instant Watch 90 days after they debut on the premium pay and subscription channels EPIX offers.

“Adding EPIX to our growing library of streaming content, as the exclusive Internet-only distributor of this great content, marks the continued emergence of Netflix as a leader in entertainment delivered over the Web,” weighed in Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix. “The EPIX deal is an example of the innovative ways in which we’re partnering with major content providers to broaden the scope and freshness of choices available to our members to watch instantly over the Internet.”

While Netflix Instant Watch is occasionally updated with a gem or two, any expansion to the anemic library is a good one in our book .
