iPhone Developer ngmoco Receives Google Ventures Investment

by Phil Kollar on Aug 11, 2010 at 04:15 PM

Independent developer ngmoco has become well-known and much-loved for their long string of high-quality iPhone games, including Dr. Awesome, Rolando, and We Rule. Now the company has received a major investment from Google Ventures.

According to TechCrunch, Google Ventures has given ngmoco somewhere around three to five million dollars as part of a new round of funding. The company is already profitable but has been growing quickly due to its success on iPhone and iPad.

TechCrunch points out that Google Ventures, the venture capital branch of the company, is supposedly very separate from Google itself and claims it would not make this investment decision strategically. Nonetheless, I've got to wonder if the traditionally Apple-centric ngmoco will have some of their popular mobile games show up on Android-based platforms in the future.

I know a few people around the office who were obsessed with We Rule for a while. Hopefully I'll have the chance to check it out on my Droid phone soon.
