Wayne Newton Is Also Mr. New Vegas
It looks like the cockroaches will have some company. Bethesda revealed that Wayne Newton is another creature who can survive a nuclear apocalypse. The veteran Vegas entertainer is lending his voice talents to Fallout: New Vegas as a long-dead radio DJ whose transmissions continue to broadcast over a loop. "Even in the post-apocalypse, there's still Wayne Newton," said producer, Jason Bergman to USA Today. "I think he got a kick out of that." In addition to Newton, the cast includes Matthew Perry, Zach Levi, Kris Kristofferson, Michael Dorn, Felicia Day, and Ron Perlman.
Perry is taking on the part of Benny, a smooth-talking gangster. Day and Levi are voicing player companions Veronica, a Brotherhood of Steel scribe, and Arcade, a member of Followers of the Apocalypse. Danny Trejo is voicing gunslinger Raul the Ghoul. Kristofferson plays Chief Hanlon, a veteran soldier, and Dorn voices supermutant Marcus, who was first seen in Obsidian's Fallout 2.
Bergman told USA Today that Newton adds a dose of authenticity to the game's world. "He really brings that extra touch of Vegas class to the game. ... And whether he's reading news stories about super mutants or introducing a Dean Martin song, his personality comes through."
It's a pretty impressive cast. Let's hope they're used more effectively than Patrick "I'm outta here" Stewart was in the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
