ESPN Chronicles Madden's Rise To Riches

by Matt Bertz on Aug 05, 2010 at 09:40 AM

Do you like playing Madden? Do you like reading encyclopedic articles? Then ESPN has a story for you!

Regular ESPN.com contributor Patrick Hruby has done a fantastic job chronicling the history of the biggest sports game. Starting from Trip Hawkins' initial pitch to Madden (John was Hawkins' third choice, by the way), Hruby details the growth of the video game franchise into the billion-dollar juggernaut it is today. Along the way you'll hear some fantastic anecdotes about the series, including a great story about Madden foolishly passing on buying stock when Electronic Arts went public. "That was the dumbest thing I ever did in my life," Madden laughs.
