Crackdown And APB Developer Going Social With Project: MyWorld

by Phil Kollar on Jul 28, 2010 at 02:55 PM

Sure, Realtime Worlds' previous games were the open-world explosion-heavy Crackdown and the crime-based action MMO APB, but it looks like with their next project, they're going for something a little friendlier.

Described on its official website as "if Nintendo built Google Earth," Project: MyWorld is a new thing that apparently mixes social media, social gaming, and traditional gaming. The introductory post is light on details about what such a strange mix actually produces as a game, but there are some hints.

From what we can tell, MyWorld recreates locations from the real world, including buildings, but allows users to customize the look in some ways. Once you're satisfied with your surroundings, you can pull out vehicles to explore and mini-games. The video that was posted with the announcement shows off car racing, a plane doing some tricks, and even fishing. It also seems like the game will feature integration with Facebook, Twitter, and possibly other social networks.

It sounds like Realtime Worlds is still early into this project and open to new ideas, as the post urges fans to send in feedback. They'll be rolling out more info in the coming weeks, including news on a closed beta at some point in the future. It sounds like they're aiming to have the project open to everyone by sometime in early 2011. In the mean time, check out the announcement video below and see if you get anything more out of it.
