UPDATE: Which Modern RPG Has The Best Downloadable Add-Ons?

by Bryan Vore on Jul 27, 2010 at 08:45 AM

In light of BioWare's latest announcement of more Mass Effect 2 DLC on top of Lair of the Shadow Broker, we got to thinking of all the add-ons of this generation's RPGs and action/RPGs. Here's a rundown of some of the higher profile games and the DLC that's currently available for them in order to refresh your memory (feel free to bring up others we've missed):

  • Mass Effect 2: Two new squad members with loyalty missions, the Normany crash site, Hammerhead hover tank missions, and Overlord missions.
  • Fallout 3: Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, Mothership Zeta
  • Fable II: Knothole Island, See the Future
  • Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
  • Dragon Age: Origins: The Stone Prisoner, Return to Ostagar, Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song, Awakening

UPDATE: Due to popular demand in the comments, I've added another contender:

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Shivering Isles, The Fighter's Stronghold, Knights of the Nine, The Vile Lair, Mehrunes' Razor, The Thieves Den, The Wizard's Tower, The Orrery

These add-on playable missions vary greatly in price and amount of content, ranging from a few dollars all the way up to Dragon Age's $40 Awakening expansion. For the most part, the more you pay for, the more gameplay you get. Do you prefer to pay $5 for a two-hour experience or pay $10 for five hours? What's the best add-on mission that you've played so far?
