Pachter: 3DS Could Have Higher Software Prices

by Matt Helgeson on Jul 26, 2010 at 10:45 AM

Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter is very optimistic about the Nintendo 3DS, predicting that Nintendo will sell "millions" of units of the handheld even if the retail price was as high as $250.

He also predicts that Nintendo will begin to raise the prices of its DS and 3DS software , from an average of $25 now to an average of $29 and above. He also predicts that the current DS hardware will see a sales increase upon the release of the 3DS.

In further speculation, Pachter lowered his quarterly expectations for Nintendo from 259 billion yen ($3 billion) down to 215 billion yen($2.47 billion), based on weak sales and poor exchange rates for the yen.

However, the release of the 3DS in 2011 – likely in spring in Japan and fall in the U.S. – should improve the company's 2012 sales forecast.
