If you haven't heard of the Suicide Squad, let me fill you in. They are a supergroup that's part of the DC Comics universe, but they are far from heroes. Rather, they are (potentially) reformed villains put together by the government and given a chance at freedom...if they're willing to do some dirty missions that have a high probability of leading to their deaths. The Squad has been appearing on and off in DC Comics since the '80s, and according to a San Diego Comic-Con panel today, Warner Bros. is now making a game based around the concept.

Comic Book Resources reports on this surprising announcement from the DC Focus: Geoff Johns panel. Johns, a long-time comic writer and recently-named chief creative officer at DC Comics, revealed that part of Warner Bros. recent expansion in their video game department will include the creation of a "hardcore violent" Suicide Squad game. And hardcore violent really is the only right way to do a Suicide Squad game.

Why create a game using a bunch of obscure DC universe heroes instead of a more recognizable cast? DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson said this project is part of an effort to use more DC properties in WB's video game line-up. There is also talk of a Suicide Squad film in the works, which the game could tie in to.

I already said it once today about the newly-announced Green Lantern video game, but as a big fan of the Suicide Squad...Warner Bros., I'm begging you, please make this game awesome.
