This week, Square Enix confirmed once and for all that their upcoming MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, will not be released on the Xbox 360. Despite the fact that FF XIV will still make it to PlayStation 3 (albeit later than its PC release), this news spurred a discussion on this week's episode of Respec Radio about whether or not the MMO genre will ever really break through to consoles.

Final Fantasy XI made it to both PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, and Everquest had a PS2 spin-off titled Online Adventures, so it's been proven that console MMOs are doable to some degree. But we've yet to see a hit massively multiplayer game like World of Warcraft in the console space, and we've seen plans for lots of console MMOs fall apart this generation. From Champions Online and Star Trek Online to APB, we've seen numerous MMOs drop their planned console counterparts to focus on a PC release.

So should MMO developers be adding to their already massive budgets to try to make an MMO work on console? Would you play a game with such a huge time investment on your couch, or does that type of game work best hunched over a monitor and clutching a mouse and keyboard? Let us know in the comments!
