Marvel’s New Halo Comic Reveals Master Chief’s Face

by Ben Reeves on Jul 08, 2010 at 01:30 PM

When Halo: Combat Evolved came out in 2001 it released alongside a novel called Halo: The Fall of Reach, which detailed events leading up to the game and provided some detailed back story for many of the series characters. Now, as the series go back to the events surrounding Reach, Marvel is prepping a series of miniseries that will retell the events of the original novel, and it promises to show Master Chief in ways we’ve never seen him before.

Comic news site Newsarama recently posted an interview with the new comic’s writer Brian Reed. Reed had a lot of interesting things to say about translating the popular franchise to comic books once again, but we were most interested to hear him say, “We've seen hints of Chief as a child a couple of times before, and his adult appearance is pretty well described in Nylund's novel. So the plan here is to follow those guideposts. There's certainly a fun to the mystery of his appearance in the games, and part of that appeal is that it lets you put yourself in the armor at some level, but this is a story and not a game. Short of hiding his face in the shadows or creatively framing shots to keep his head off-panel (both of which would be silly), we're going to need to show what he looks like. Which is exciting!”

Look for Halo: The Fall of Reach - Boot Camp to come out this September.
